Trophies To Auckland; Records Broken WOMEN AND JUNIOR MEN Dominion Special Service. WANGANUI, March 8. The Auckland centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, with 34 points, hnd no difficulty in retaining the 11. L. Towers Shield, awarded annually to the province obtaining the most points in junior men’s events, when the New Zealand women's and junior men’s amateur athletic championships were held on Cook's Gardens, Wanganui, today. The track was very fast and Conditions were perfect for the meeting. Some exceptionally fast times were recorded, and four records were broken. In the afternoon and evening, however, competitors in the shorter events were favoured by a following wind, and because of this it was announced that no records would be allowed unless the track was circled. The meeting was conducted by the West Coast (North Island) centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, and was one of the most successful yet held in Wanganui. Competitors from all parts of the Dominion attended, and competition was keen in all events. Some first-class finishes were seen. The Lumley Sisters Memorial Shield, won for the first time last year by the Auckland centre, was retained by Auckland. This team obtained 28 points , and was well ahead of Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay (16), which was second. West Coast (North Island) and Otago tied for third, place with 12 points each. One of the highlights of the meeting was the brilliant performance of R. Harris, West Coast (North Island), in the 880 yards junior men’s championship.
