£156,776 Remitted To London THE SPITFIRE FUND Last Year’s Campaign In New Zealand An announcement that the total sum sent to London in connexion with last year’s campaign to raise funds for financing the purchase of defence aeroplanes in Britain amounted to fl 56,776 was made last evening by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Nash.

"This sum has been made up of several parts which have been sent as the money came forward,” said tbe Minister. “For example, by the third week in October £lOO,OOO New Zealand currency had been remitted to England; by the third week in December another £45,615 had been sent; and finally today the balance of £11,160 has been forwarded. “That completes the contribution made by New Zealanders to what we have known as the “Spitfire Fund,’ ” said Mr. Nash. “Including the shillings and pence the total amounted to £156,776/5/8 in New Zealand currency.”
