USE OF PETROL

Dunedin Manufacturers Favour Reduction

FURTHER RESTRICTIONS (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, March 7.

A resolution expressing the desire of the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association to give its support to any steps the Government may see fit to take in (he direction of restricting the use of petrol and urging its members to do everything possible to comply with the appeal for voluntary economy in this respect was adopted unanimously at a fully-attended meeting of the association.

The resolution was: “That iu view of the serious position of petrol supplies in the Dominion, the associate'll urges its inemliers to support in every possible way, the Government’s request for economy. At the same time the association feels that the time has arrived for further compulsory restrictions to be imposed, and will support whatever steps are necessary Io have these carried out with a minimum of dislocation to industry.” A statement issued after the meeting says that though members felt the granting of am extra coupon for March and April was not warranted under the present conditions, it was realized it had a comparatively small effect on the total shortage and that the position of resellers trs an economic unit of the Dominion was of vital importance. Members were willing to do all they could to secure economies, but were of the opinion that the position definitely warranted further compulsory restrictions and they were willing to co-oper-ate in order to reduce, as far as possible. the effect of such restrictions on industry.
