LITTLE GREEN GATEWAY

JT was in the country on a bright

summer’s day. Chancing by, I opened the little green gate and stepped in. For a moment I stood entranced. Surrounded by a tall, green hedge was the most beautiful and colourful scene. The sweet lavender bushes mingled with tall, spiky dahlias and summer lilac. Dainty little roses climbed over the chimneys of a cottage and peeped in at the sunny windows. But already the sun had begun to fade, and I knew that the privileges of further exploration were not for me. I shut the little gate with a resounding click—thinking that never again would I see so much beauty gathered into one place.— Prue (11), Wellington.
