Peter Lorre's Voice Soothes Children
JJETER LORRE is being sought to read bedtime stories for tiny tots. The questionable distinction reached him recently on the set of “The Face Behind the Mask” at the Columbia studio, in the form of a notice that his voice had been chosen from a recent survey of 500 recorded vocal deliveries as the “best suited for child audiences.” Lorre’s voice, he was advised, combined “soothing and calming qualities most likely to instil confidence and quiet at the approaching bedtime hour.” Lorre, who makes his living frightening people, commented: “I must be slipping.” The concern making the bid for his services is a large advertising company with a client that sells a children’s food. J 4 EV ANTE, the illusionist and magician, who has been appearing in Sydney and Melbourne for the last three months, will commence his season in Wellington on Saturday, April 12 (Easter Saturday). His advance manager is Mr. Charles Knight, well known in New Zealand.
