BASIC ACCORD
Thailand Peace Talks (Received March 6, IL3O p.m.) LONDON, March 6. It is announced in Tokio that a basic understanding has been reached with France in the Thailand-Indo-China peace negotiations. The Domei agency reports that a communique issued jointly by Japan. France and Thailand says that- both the French and Thai Governments have agreed in principle to the points made in the Japanese plan. The remaining points are likeiyto be settled Within a few days. .Tliis communique was issued after' the French Ambassador in Tokio, Al. Arsene-Henry, had had an interview with the Japanese Foreign Minister. Mr. Matsuoka, lasting 55 minutes. Japan’s mediation proposals are believed to have supported Thailand’s claims for the cession by Indo-Chiua of part of the province of Cambodia and a strip of territory running along the Gulf of Siam.
The Japanese Prime Minister, Prince Konoye, yesterday summoned an urgent Cabinet meeting for today because France had again failed to meet the Japanese deadline for the acceptance of the terms. /
