NATIONAL PARTY

General Secretary Resigns

TRIBUTE BY THE COUNCIL At the meeting of the Dominion Council of the New Zealand National Party on February 28, the president, air. A. Gordon, reported that on February 9 Mr. D. W. McClurg had intimated his decision to resign the general secretaryship of the party. Mr. Cheviot Bell, vice-president, Mr. C. H. Weston, K.C., past president, and Mr. Holland, M.P., Parliamentary Leader of the party, paid tributes to the excellent and efficient service he had given in organizing the party machine and in particular to the good order of its financial affairs. The following resolution was carried unanimously:— That this council desires to place on record its appreciation of the services of Mr. McClurg as general secretary over a period of four -years. During that period the headquarters organization has been built up to the efficient central rallying point of the party which it now is. This council recognizes to the full the unremitting effort, care and thought which Mr. McClurg has expended in the accomplishment of that task. He has now signified his desire to retire and this council accepts his resignation with regret and extends to him sincere gratitude for his past services and all best wishes.

Mr. McClurg thanked the speakers and the council for their kindly and appreciative remarks and his many friends in the organization for their cooperation. He intimated that he would carry on the duties of his office till the annual conference of the party to be held in May next, which would give sufficient time to appoint his successor.
