six special trains this week will convey 1200 horses to the camp of the Second Mounted Rilles Brigade in 1' oxton. Herses have to be brought from all parts of the East Coast. Wairarapa. and Taranaki, entailing in some eases a trek of two davs to the railhead. The trains wni travel til night, so as to provide for the mii.imui’u of delay, the horses being trucked during the day. All the equipment for ihe horses is m camp, ready for issue. A large quantity of fodder is already stored in Foxton, where it is planned to keep a reserve to provide against any possibility of shortage as the result of transport delays. Speciall.v-buill troughs led by Foxton borough" water have been arranged in long lines.
Two veterinary officers are attached to the regiment, to see to the care of the horses, and in addition there is attached to the brigade a mobile veterinary section of 32 men. The members of this section have had special training in the care of horses. Farriers have also been trained for the shoeing of the horses.
