Prompt Retaliation In Sofia Restaurant LONDON, February 23.. The United States Minister at Sofia. Mr. G. H. Earle, figured in a scene in a restaurant where the orchestra, at his request, began to play “Tipperary.” Germans who were present made cat-calls, and one who was reported to be a soldier in civilian clothes picked up a bottle and threw it at Mr. Earle. The Minister put up bis arm. which was bruised, and then as the German was about to throw another bottle Mr. Barie picked up rhe nearest missile and nit him with it. The German re•eived a cut on the bead, and wa< ejected !•: waiters. Mr Earle said: “A German threw a bottle, and I retaliated by injuring his features. The incident is regrettable, but I saw on other alternative."
