Pro-British Sentiment Dominion Special Service. WANGANUI, February 2-1. Conditions in Sweden before and during the war, and the story of his return to New Zealand via Russia and the Blaek Sea, were recounted by Mr. C. Taylor, Palmerston North, in an address to a luncheon of the Wanganui Rotary Club today. The war had greatly affected life in Sweden, he said. Rigid control was exercised over all foreigners, and exports of iron ore and war materials* had been brought to a virtual standstill. Popular sentiment in Sweden, contrary to general belief abroad, was pro-Brilish and strongly anti-Nazi. Mr. Taylor said the journey as far as the Mediterranean included" rides on cattle-trucks with Russian troops, and a trip down the Black Sea in a tramp steamer. At Varna, Bulgaria, vast consignments of cotton for Germany were being unloaded.
