CORDIAL WELCOME
Address By Prime Minister GREAT HONOUR TO DOMINION
A cordial welcome from the Government and people of New Zealand was given to Sir Cyril and Lady Newall by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser. He expressed the hope that their stay in the Dominion would be very happy, and said that they came at a time when the British Commonwealth of Nations was exposed to sterner trials and greater dangers than ever before in its long and varied historv.
“Here in New Zealand you will find a people imbued with all the characteristic spirit and the highest traditions of the British race,” said Mr. Fraser to their Excellencies. “You will find men ami women inspired with the fervent wisli to share to tiie full, witli their kinsfolk in the United Kingdom and elsewhere, in the task of defending their lives and their liberties, and in preserving Christian civilization and the democratic way of -life.
“In tliis grave and critical hour it is a matter of great, satisfaction to us that a Governor-General with so distinguished a record as your own should have come to live in our midst. It is most appropriate, in present circumstances, that the representative of His
