Season Ends Tonight

’Tonight will end the <l. C. Williamson Gilbert and Sullivan Comic Opera Company’s season of “The Yeomen of the Guard” in the Opera House, Wellington. “The Yeomen” wits Sir Arthur Sullivan's own favourite of the series, not only because of its picturesque Elizabethan setting and the more than hint of the serious in its make-up, but because for once there was a straightforward story, devoid entirely of that oddly fantastical and altogether capricious spirit of topsy-turvey-doni which characterizes most of the opera plots—and perhaps this is why it is so enthusiastically acclaimed by Hie public Ivan Menzies is brilliant as Jack Point, the jester, and the music allocated to the role of EJsie Maynard gives Miss Viola Wilson further opportunities for her rich soprano voice. The chorus ami orchestra, under Sir. Leo Packer, are features of the show. “lolanthe.” Regarded by many as the Cinderella of Gilbert-Sullvan compositions because of its slighter general content and musical structure. “lolanthe” will lie presented tomorrow night. Wednesday afternoon and night, and Thursday night. The chorus of the peers will Ire accompanied, in addition to the orchestra, by a full brass band. ‘■lul.’inthe” will be followed on Friday by “The Mikado.” Ou Tuesday, March 4. the two following evenings, and on Wednesday afternoon, “11.M.5. Pinafore.” preceded by "Cox and Box,” will be produced.
