Highway Open For Traffic

A statement that both lanes of the Ngahaurangir Gorge* highway would lie open for trall'm today was made yesterday by the Minister of Public Works, Mr. Armstrong.

"Excellent progress has been made by tin* staff of iny department with the restoration of the severe washout that took place some days ago,” said Mr. Armstrong, "and I would like* to pay a tribute to their lino efforts. The men engaged have worked long hours to make the roadway usable by traffic.” Mr. Armstrong added that care would have to be exercised still, particularly by’ traffic from flu* Johnsonville end. as the filling-in was as yet only in a rough state. Its consolidation would bo necessary before tar-sealing could be undertaken.
