Lack of confidence which has restricted trading in tlie grain and produce markets since the beginning of the season shows no signs of abating, and business in every section this week lias been unduly quiet for the time of year. The only real activity has been in wheat, which has been delivered as last as trucks have become available to move it from tlie country.
Reports iudieale that the yield li.ibeen patchy in this part of the province but excellent results have been obtained in mid and South Canterbury. After a slight, flatter earlier in tile week the potato market has again become very quiet, though values have no' receded from £4 for April, May and June, at which business was recorded. Ryegrass is still offering only in limited amounts and remains steady at up to 4/1. More Akaroa cocksfoot lias come in during the week and shows a wide variation in quality and a wider range in weights. The bull; of samples so far received range from “Jib. to 121 b.. and values have been from 8(1. to 1 -. tints are not being offered at all freely after the early rush. Values remain sternly. There is a restricted inquiry for chaff, which is steady at £3 10/-, on trucks.
