Ships Names On Railway
Trucks
NECESSITY FOR SECRECY (By Telegraph—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, February 17. An assurance that the practice ot chalking the names of vessels on rail way’ trucks travelling to or from ports for loading or unloading would be stopped immediately was given by the Minister of Railways. Mr. Semple, in an interview tonight. The Minister said lie had not been aware of the practice till his notice was drawn to it. and be agreed that it was not desirable. It. was pointed out to the Minister that all persons associated witli shipping were urged not to discuss shipping movements. Railway trucks with 11?:? names of vessels chalked ou them would give a clear indication to a large number of persons of the presence in ports of ships, and the practice was not consistent with the official desire for secrecy’ about shipping movements.
"I will stop it at once,” said the Minister. "I was not aware that it was done. Thank you for the tip. I will get ou to it in the morning.”
