Rain delated the start ol play. Wellington won tlie loss, amt when the luncheon adjournment was taken the visitors had scored 28 runs for one wicket. '1 here was no play after luncheon because of rain. When Wellington won the loss the. weather looked likely to clear, mid it was decided to bat. the captain, McLeod, mid Hepburn opening to tlie bowling of A\ eir and Cleverlev. The batsmen proceeded to play themselves in. Fifteen runs were scored in nine overs without a boundary. In the next Hepburn played a maiden to Cleverley. Weir replaced Burke, mid the change was successful. From the fourth ball of the over a confident appeal was made against Hepburn for a catch behind the wicket, mid it was allowed. 19-1-9. 'The newcomer, Wilson, had mi anxious moment when he hesitated to run a single and his partner, McLeod, had to run the Icngfh of lhe wicket, before Wilson moved, but mi erratic return to the wrong end saved him.
