Match With Auckland Begins On Friday It was announced at the weekly meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Cricket Association yesterday that the Wellington representative team which is to play the return match with the Auckland eleven, at Auckland, on Friday, Saturday, and Monday next, will leave for Auckland by the 3 o’clock train tomorrow. T. Russ, of the Kilbirnie club, has notified that he will be unable to make the trip. Lieutenant-Colonel IL W. Foster, of the General Staff, Central Military District, advised that the Officer Commanding the District had approved of a match between a team from Trentham Mobilization Camp and a Wellington team, on condition that the total gate money collected, less the cost of transport of the Army team, be devoted to the Patriotic Fund. It was decided to reply that it would be impossible to play such a match uutil about the middle of Mareh. The town clerk advised that the reserves committee of the Wellington City Council had allocated the Basin Reserve to the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association on February 22, and to the New Zealand Baseball Association on April 5. The Victoria University College Amateur Athletic Club had applied for the use -of the Basin Reserve on April 12 and April 14. The dates suggested for the use of the Basin Reserve by outside sports bodies were approved. The Onslow club wrote, stating that it was compelled to withdraw its sixth grade team from the championship competition, because of loss of members. BOYS’ MATCH Wellington proved much too strong for Lower Hutt in a match played under the control of the Wellington Boys' Cricket Association on the Kilbirnie Recreation Ground on Saturday morning. Wellington made 1411 for virtually one wicket. Deslandes scored 50, -Lahood 51, and -Hayman 27. and these three players all retired. The only Wellington player to lose his wicket was Inglis, who was caught after reaching 13. (Lower Hutt could total only 100, the highest scorer being B. Mabin, director ot the Wellington Boys’ Institute, who reinforced the Hutt 'boys, and scored 37 not out. Dudding and Wiggins 'both reached 15. Hicks and Hayman were the most successful bowlers for Wellington. RAILWAY CADETS’ MATCH A match 'between railway cadets of Auckland and Wellington, played on Bell Park at the weekend, resulted in a win for Wellington by 147 runs on the first innings Wellington scored 206 for eight wickets, declared (Clure 92, Turnbull 37 not out), and Auckland "were dismissed for 59.
