Promoted To Be Squadron
Leader Dominion Special Service. WANGANUI, February 10. Flight Lieutenant A. C. Deere. D.F.C., with bar, has been promoted to Squadron Leader, according to cabled advice received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J.’ Deere, Plymouth Street, Wanganui. He was awarded the D.F.C. in June for living exploits in France, during which" he shot down live planes. Iu August Squadron Leader Deere was awarded n bar to his D.F.C. This was after he had rammed a Messerschmitt 10!) in a dog-fight. Squadron Leader Deere's Machine caught fire, and lie crashed in a field, escaping with bruises, cuts and slight burns. Squadron Leader Deere was born in Auckland and educated at the ’Wanganui Murist. Brothers’ School and the Wanganui Technical College. He joined tlie H.A.l''. in 1937. He is a keen boxer and middleweight champion of the Army, Nuvy mid Air Force. lie has three brothers in the services. Brian Deere, wilh the Second N'.Z.E.F. in the Middle East. James Deere, in tlie Army, aud Kevin Deere, in the Koya! Navy.
