FOR LOCAL SOLDIERS OVERSEAS
A gathering of Makara residents and visitors was held on Saturday at the Makara Hall, the proceeds being in aid of local overseas soldiers. The evening was spent in dancing to the, music of local and visiting players.' Two competitions were held, one prize being six dessert knives, donated by Mr. T. Bailey, Makara, and won by Miss Nancy James, ami the other, a pair of cockerels, donated by Mrs. IV. Jervis, Makara, and won by Mr. B. Schofield. Amusement was caused by a ‘•dutch” auction for a pair of cockerels, which realized £l/15/-.
