ROTORUA CUP

Black Musk Surprises CORATO WINS SPRINT Dominion Special Service. ROTORUA, February 8. The Rotorua Racing Club's annual meeting opened in fine weather. The track was fast and there was a large attendance. The totalizator handled £29,880/10/- against £24,354 last year. After the second race the judicial committee reversed the judge’s placings on the grounds of interference by Laughing Fox with Natal over the concluding stages. G. Cameron, rider of Laughing Fox, was suspended for one month for careless riding. The seventh and sixth fancy. Black Musk, brought off a surprise in the Rotorua Cup, in which the favourites, Foxsen, The Dozer and Greek Queen, were unplaced. The Dozer, Very Glad, Foxsen and Black Musk were quickly prominent from Rarotonga and High Delight. The Dozer held a slight lead going along the back and was joined nearing the turn by Black Musk, with High Delight, Very Glad, Queen City and Greek Queen closest of the others, and Erlick making a run on the outside. Once in line for the post,' Black Musk drew clear, and he won by a length and a half from Erlick, who finished strongly. High Delight fought on well to be a close third, and Greek Queen was fourth .ahead of The Dozer, Queen City, Pocket Venus and Rarotonga.

The Dozer failed to run it right out, and Foxsen, who was well placed early, failed to show any dash in the concluding stages. Pern ran ungenerously, and was never dangerous.
