J. C. Williamson Company To Play In Wellington "The Gondoliers," in which J. C. Williamson’s Gilbert and Snllivun Opera Company will begin its season in the Opera House, ’Wellington, on Wednesday, is one of the most tuneful and most humorous of the works of the famous collaborators. Gilbert and Sullivan operas speak a language all can understand —highbrow or lowbrow, grown-up or child. 'The Savoy operas are an institution. and their popularity in Eng-lish-speaking countries is greater at this moment than before. Of course, it is essential that the Gilbert and Sullivan operas should be presented by first-class singers and comedians, and realizing this the J. C. Williamson nutiiagenient, it is said, spared neither money nor time in getting together for the present revivals a powerful organization. Evidently their efforts have not been in vain, for the Auckland season bad to be considerably extended, ami additional matinees staged to relieve the pressure for seals at the evening performances. Only live nights can be devoted to "The Gondoliers'’ iu Wellington, and a matinee will be presented on Saturday. On Tuesday and Wednesday and Wednesday afternoon. February IS and 111, "The Birutes of I’eiizanee." preceded by "Tritil by Jury,” will be produced, and it wiil lie followed by "The Yeomen of the Guard" (for three nights and a matinee), "liilanllie” (for three nights and ;i matinee), "The Mikado’’ (for four nights and a matinee), tind "11.M.5. I’inafore." preeeded by ’’('ox ami Box’’ (’for two nights and matinee). Playgoers will |>e glad to weleome the reappearance of Ivan .Menzies. Evelyn Gardiner, Gregory Stroud. Itiehard Watson. Bernard .Manning, Vincent McMurray, and will be keen to see the new artists. including John Fullai’d (tenor), Viola Wilson (soprano), Sar.'i Gregory ( soubret I e), I I'eggy Shea (uiezzoi.
