NAVAL OBSERVER

American Officer Welcomed (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, February 4. Members of the consular corps and lepresentatives of shipping, airways and other Interests assembled at the American Consulate today to meet Commander J. P. Oldiug, who was recently appointed naval observer to the American Consulate. His appointment is the first of the kind in the Dominion, following closely on similar appoint incuts to Cape Town, Sydney and Singapore.
