LATE MR. J. R. PALMER
Funeral Yesterday There was a large attendance at the funeral of Mr. John 11. Palmer, formerly town clerk of Wellington, yesterday morning. The Rev. F. J. Usher conducted a service at the family residence, No. 43 Austin Street, and also the service in the crematorium at the Karori cemetery. There was also a Masonic service at the crematorium, conducted by Mr. C. M. Cathie, deputymaster, and Mr. W. A. Parson, secretary of Lodge Waterloo. The chief mourners were the widow an'd Mr. Arthur Palmer, son. The pall-bearers were Captain J. E. Dawson, Messrs. W. A. Parton, R. Whyborn, 11. Pearce, E. P. Norman (town clerk), and B. O. Peterson (city treasurer). Among those present were the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, who was for some years a member of the Wellington City Council when Mr. Palmer was town clerk, the mayor, Mr. Hislop, Sir James Elliott (representing St. John Ambulance Association), Messrs. M. Cable (tramways manager), John O’Shea (city solicitor), R. Herron (manager of the milk department), K. E. Luke (city engineer), J. Norrie (chief librarian), 11. E. Nicholls (traffic department), M. Casey (city engineer’s department). Councillors R. A. Wright, M. F. Luckie, Messrs. C. D. Morpeth, S. E. Lambert, C. Collins (former city treasurer), T. Rowell, F. Wilton, G. A. Wallace, W. Hatch, W. E. Cathie, 11. Tait, R. Page, and A. Hardcastle.
