WELLINGTON CRICKET ELEVEN
Team To Play Auckland WELL-BALANCED SIDE The sole selector for the Wellington Cricket Association, Mr. J. R. Lamason, has chosen the following team to play against Auckland, at Auckland, mi February 14, 15, 17 and IS:—E. G. McLeod (Hutt), W. Hepburn (Midland), P. D. Wilson (University), R. Crawford (Midland), D. 8. Wilsou (Kilbirnie), N. S. 11. Burnette (Wellington College Old Boys), W. E. Norris (Mauawatu), J. Duffy (Karori), T. Russ (Kilbirnie), L. ’■I 1 - Pritchard (Mauawatu), T, E. Downes (Manawatu), J. Ashenden (Kilbirnie). The selector has done his work well in choosing such a well-balanced side, writes “Burwood.” The batting is particularly sound, and the attack is stronger than anything Wellington has fielded so far this season. With Pritchard, Downes and D. S. Wilson to provide the pace; Ashenden the medium pace; and Crawford, McLeod, Hepburn, P. D. Wilson and Duffy the slows, the Wellington captain will have a varied string of bowlers to call upon. Duffy, the Karori player, has earned his place in the team by his consistent all-round play in club games this season.
It would appear that Lainason himself was not available to make the trip, but McLeod, who captained the Wellington team last year, should make a good substituei, as the Hutt man has shown fine bating form this season, and his slow spinners will be useful in the attack.
The presence of the two Midland players, Hepburn and Crawford, will unquestionably strengthen the team.
