LIGHT CAR CAPSIZES
Hastings Family’s Escape

HASTINGS, January 31. Mr. William Barlow. Hastings, and his wife and small son, narrowly escaped serious injury when the light car he was driving toward Hastings capsized on the Takapau Plains. 11 miles from Wnipukurau. last evening. A wheel hit a hole where tlie tar-sealing had broken, and the driver lost control. • The car landed on the near-side of the hood, smashing the wood and fabric, part of the sedan top, and breaking all the windows. Mr. Barlow was pinned in with an ankle jammed iu the door. He was taken to Waipukurau Hospital when he had been released, and an X-ray examination showed that no boues were broken. Mrs. Barlow received a cut on a wrist, and the boy a cut on a leg. COLLISION ON FOXTON BEACH ROAD FOXTON, January 31. Two cars came into violent collision on Foxton Beach Road last night, and one, driven by Mr. H. Bennett, Carnarvon, was wrecked. Mr. Bennett had a miraculous escape from serious injury, though he had to receive medical attention. The other car, driven by Mr. S. Nye, Foxtou, was damaged along one side, and he and his passenger, Mr. D. Harper, Foxton, escaped injury. Mr. Bennett had as a passenger Mr. M. Zazonskowski, also of Carnarvon, who was uninjured. The accident occurred at a spot where a lorry had stopped to pick up soldiers walking back to camp.
