NEWTOWN SCHOOL
Use As Temporary Hospital BOARD’S POSITION “It looked as though the education board was holding a pistol at the head of the board,” said Air J. C. Crawford, at last night’s meeting of the AVellington Hospital Board, 'in referring to a Press report of a decision of the AVellington Education Board to serve a month’s notice on the hospital board that the Newtown School, which was being used as a temporary hospital, Avas to be vacated within a month. He asked what the position was. The acting superintendent, Dr. J. Ca’irney, said that only the downstairs portion of the school was being used. The maximum number of patients there was 50. So far no communication had been received from the education board. It might be possible to evacuate the building by the end of February. Air. F. Castle said the board hoped to secure some relief in its accommodation problem when the 100-bed soldiers’ block was completed. The matter was being carefully investigated.
