MERCHANT SERVICE FUNERAL
The funeral of the late Mr. 11. J. Davies, chief steward of an overseas ship, who was killed in a motor accident on New Year’s Day, took place at Karori yesterday morning. There was a short service in Wellington conducted by the Rev. A. F. Collard Scruby, of St. Paul’s Pro-Cathedral, who also took the service at the graveside. Before the service the hymn “'When I Survey the 'Wondrous Cross” was sung and afterward part of the "Dead March” was played. The pall-bearers were Capt. E. T. Grayston, Mr. Evans (chief engineer), Mr. W. Sa re (third officer), Mr. D. O. Jarnin, Capt. T. Morgan, Private IV. J. Langdon (Territorial Force). Messrs. E. Hudson. T. Taylor. C. Logan, R. Vickery, and E. A. Henry (A.B.’s) and Capt. Black. Among those who attended were Capt. Mclntosh (Marine Superintendent, Shaw, Savill and Albion Co., Ltd.). Messrs. Robertson and Swan, ■Wellington office of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Co., Ltd., Capt. Lidgett (Lloyds’ Surveyor), Mr. .1. Dawson (Inspector of Machinery. Marine Department). Lt.-Col. Donaldson, and many of the company of the ship with which Mr. Davies had been associated.
