Edward Small, Discoverer Of Stars
TpDWARD SMALL, who has produced “Kit Carson,” with a cast including Jon Hall in the title role, Lynn Bari, Ward Bond and Harold Huber, has been a master showman for a long time. His experience covers every phase of the business. Noted as a discoverer of new talent, Small was responsible for the development into a star of Robert Donat. He noticed Donat in a bit part in “The Private Life of Henry VIII,” and gave him the lead in “The Count of Monte Cristo.” The picture was an enormous success, and Donat was made. Another new personality developed by the producer was Louis Hayward. “The Man in the Iron Mask” and “My Son, My Son” made Havward a star. In the latter film, incidentally, appeared another Small discovery, Laraine Day, who is rapidly becoming one of the most
valued leading ladies in Hollywood. “Kit Carson” is the story of the great American woodsman, pioneer and Indian fighter. In this picture Small introduces three new, exciting and promising personalities. They are Dana Andrews, Clayton Moore, and Rowena Cook. If Small’s success in the past is any criterion, much may be expected from this trio of discoveries.
JEFFREY LYNN, George Brent and Olivia de Havilland are to be the stars in “Miss Wainwright Discovers America,” and John Payne will play lead in “Star of the Islands.”
