RAIDS ON BRITAIN NOT SEVERE
LONDON, January 2.
By contrast with the quietness of the previous two nights, London last night had three visits from enemy raiders. The raids were not severe, either in London or other parts of the country. The Air Ministry says that several raiders were active in widely-separ-ated parts of the country. In the northwest and in the London area some houses were hit and there were a few casualties.
The first bomb of 1941 crashed iu London early yesterday morning. It was a heavy high-explosive bomb, and it shook one business district. An area in the West Midlands was subjected to a “nuisance raid” last night after 10 days of complete immunity. A number of planes passed over at wide intervals, but there was only one report of bombing when three highexplosive bombs were dropped, on one town.
Raiders were also over Liverpool and other Merseyside towns for several hours. One bomb demolished a block of buildings. A lone raider destroyed several cottages in a village in North Wales, and the occupants were slightly injured. Two high-explosive bombs crashed in areas which iiad previously been struck and caused casualties and considerable damage. Apparently this bombing was also the work of a lone nuisance flyer, who met with heavy anti-aircraft fire.
