LONG SERVICE WITH RAILWAYS
Mr. A. Anderson Retires
Recently- members of the railway staff at Upper Hutt and nearby stations met to bid farewell to Mr. A. Anderson, who is retiring after 37 years with the department.
Mr. J. Hoey presided, and associated with him were Mr. L. Cahill, stationmaster, and Mr. J. Blewman. mayor of Upper Hutt. On behalf of the staff and friends Mr. Cahill presented Mr. Anderson with a gold watch, and Mrs. Anderson with an oak china cabinet. He said that Mr. Anderson was well liked both by members of the staff and the travelling public, including the school children.
Replying, Mr. Anderson said he had always done bis best and he could honestly say he did not have a bad friend either in the department or outside.
Mr. P.iewman said that he had known Mr. Anderson since 1909. and he could agree that the general travelling public had nothing but praise for him.
