PAEKAKARIKI WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
'.rhe December meeting of the I’aekakariki Women’s Institute was held recently, Mrs. Tutt presiding. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs. Jackson, who was responsible for sending parcels to local ijoys overseas, and a letter of thanks was* read from Harry riper. The committee presented Mrs. Tutt witli a beautiful tray of pansies, and each member with a posy. The secretary and pianist: alsp received floral tokens. Items were given by Miss nebden. carols by the Singing Circle, and a humorous sketch by tiie Drama Circle. Members of the Happiness Club gave a demonstration of folk dancing, and competitions were won by Mrs. Judd and Mrs. Tutt. Mrs. Dodd cut the Christmas <;ake, which had been presented by Mrs. Gottrlay.
Lodge Children's Party. A jolly parly, tendered by the grownups to nieiuhers of lite Juvenile Lojal Rose of the Valley Lodge, was held at the Oddfellows' Hall, Lower Hutt, on Saturday night. Out of a membership of 71, 7(i of the children attended, and spent a very happy evening. The ball was gaily decorated with streamers, ami the large Christinas tree, which held pride of place on Hie stage, was festively decorated and laden witli acceptable gifts for each child, a jovial Father Christmas (Bro. Christianson) oflieiating. Brother tattle, the chairman for the evening, wished the guests the compliments of I lie season, and expressed pleasure nt the presence of so many parents. Brother Al. Hudson, .superintendent, on behalf of Hie children and their parents reciprocal led the good wishes, t'oiniiiuiiify singing was. enjoyed, and the evening concluded with supper and the singing of the National Ant hem.
