The Rt. Hon. Sir Michael Myers, Chief Justice, will leave Wellington today for Napier, -where he will preside over a sitting of the Supreme Court. Sir Llewellyn Dalton, who retired in January from the position of Chief Justice of Tanganyika, aud Lady Dalton, have arrived in New Zealand ou a combined health and holiday trip. They have spent five months iu Australia ad propose to make a tour of New Zealand.

Mr. and Mrs. W. 11. Welsh, Nelson, will visit Wellington for the Christmas aud New Year holidays. Mr. J. A. Gilmour, 8..11., is'visiting Greymouth, where he will preside over the tribunal which will inquire into the Ngahere gold dredge dispute. Mr. C. D. C. Caswell, late of the Church Army, was recently ordained to the deaconate by Archbishop WestWatson in Christchurch Cathedral. Mr. P. J. Halligan has been appointed registrar to the Christchurch Technical College Board of Governors in succession to Mr. W. 11. Joyce, who has held the position for the last 23 years and is shortly to retire. fir. G. J. Laureusou, Commissioner of*Transport, and Mr. A. J. Conway, of the Transport Department, Wellington. visited Christchurch last week to discuss department business with the South Island Transport Licensing Authorities, Mr. 'l'. 11. Langford (No. 3 district) and Mr. V. Raines (Xo. -I district). .Mr. K. Davies, of the Dunedin office, and Mr. J. J. B. Connor, of the Christchurch office, also attended the discussions. Inspector D. Peoples, who has retired from the Wellington tramways after more than 36 years’ service, was recently presented with a fireside chair. The president of the tramways union, Mr. 8. Leonard, spoke of his long and happy association with Mr. Peoples, and in making the presentation Mr. 11. Dunn made complimentary reference to Mr. Peoples’s long and faithful service. Mr IV. Hughes also paid his tribute and recalled incidents of early tramwav years. The junior inspectors thanked Mr. Peoples for advice on many occasions
