News And Notes From Town And Country

Airs. Holland at Home. All's. 11. St. Barbe Holland, wife of the Bishop of Wellington, will bo at home on Monday and Tuesday, December 9 arid in. from 3 to 5 p.m., and will welcome any friends who would like to see the new Bisliopseourt, 28 Eceleston Hill, Wellington. In future Airs. Holland hopes to be tit home on the first Tuesday in every month, beginning with February, 1911.

Junior Drama League. The Junior Drama League, which began activities in Wellington six weeks ago, is Io give members an opportunity of showing their acting ability at a public performance in the Central Public Library lecture hall this afternoon. The league is composed of children and is the only organization of its kind in Wellington. Alemliers have the privilege of taking part in the plays and also obtain reductions in the price of admissions to performances. The programme will include four short plays, carol singing ami pipes and selected musical items. Surplus funds from the performance will be given to the Rod Cross.

Flower Show at AVaiuui. The AVainui branch of Hie Women's institute held a very .successful Hower show at Wninui on Wednesday. There was a large attendance and great interest was displayed in this initial event. With the increase of homes being built in the valley, it was felt that the holding of a Hower show would encourage tire cultivation of gardens. Air. G. Clark, who was 'introduced by the president of the Women’s Institute, Mrs. 11. G. Heathcote, said that undoubtedly AVainui would in time become a garden suburb of AVelliugton, and gave much valuable advice on the cultivation of Howers, and particularly on the making of a garden. A branch of the AVomen’s War Service Auxiliary has ben lormed at Tailpipe. The following committee -was electedAlesdames F. 11. Barton (Red Cross), T. C. Lowry (Blanket .Society/, 11. Al. Aiiss .1. Eadie, whose marriage to Air. R. N. Bennett will take, place in Wellington next Saturday evening, has been the guest of honour at several gift parties given by her friends, including a novel "washhouse evening” at the home of Airs. 11. Jordan, Brooklyn. This afternoon Aiiss Joan I’arlit, Kelburn, will give a "kitchen party” and Aiiss Daisy Anderson, who is to bo bridesmaid tit the wedding, Ims planned a "pantry evening” at the home of Air. and Airs. George Miller for next Thursday.

Two Demonstrations Given. Two demonstrations were given at the recent meeting of the Waitarere Women's Institute, one on ruched cushions, by Airs. Procter, Foxton, and the other on face packs and facial makeup by Airs. Titcombe, Foxton. The secretary read a report on the council meeting tit Porirua ; also Airs. Hall’s account of the institute's activities during the year. Airs. Aldrich presided. Airs. Hussey gave humorous recitations and competitions were won by Alesdames Sloraan, Aldrich and Coleman.
