LAST SEASON’S PRICES

When Lamb Made Up To 8 5-Bd. A Pound In viewing prospects for this season, It is interesting to recall that, last season prices were at a very satisfactory level. From the opening of the season there was a noticeable advancing trend, and by the end of January the lamb schedule was up to B|d. per lb. Deducting the port charges, that represented Bgd. at pre-war schedule basis, and this figure was a full Id. ahead of that ruling at the same date in 1939. Fat ewes were realizing up to 15/6 to 16/- for good lines, and where “cleanup” drafts were being taken 14/- to 14/6 was being averaged. These were voted woudferful prices, comparing with 1939 prospects. During January wethers, too, had made improvement, and by February 1 top lines were scheduling to 22/6.
