PORTS

(Received November 8. 9.20 p.m.) GAIKO, November 7. An R.A.F. communique states that planes extensively reconnoitred Italian ports and coastal waters, lighters patrolled over Greek territory without meeting Italian planes. A successful raid on Assab < Eritrea) included the dropping of bombs on the main pier, and a number cd warehouses, and resulted in a large fire visible tor 45 miles. Enemy planes damaged Perim Island. Our fighters engaged a Savoia bomber approaching Malta, silenced the rear-gunner, and possibly seriously damaged the bomber. Many reconnaissances were made over the Western Desert, and Italian East Africa. All planes returned safely from all operations.
