RESEARCH WORK ON TUBERCULOSIS
Travis Trust Scheme To Be Continued
Dominion Special Service. CHRISTCHURCH. November S.
Research work on tuberculosis sponsored by the board of trustees of the W. 11. Travis Trust having proceeded successfully at the University of Otago, arrangements have now been made to continue the work for :< period of years. The university ou its part has undertaken to “house” the trust research officers during the period of invest igat ion.
The board of trustees (Mr. .1. W. Beanlttiifl. chairman, Mr. 11. A. Young, S.M., and Dr. C. T. Hand Newton), agreed some time ago to consider finding money for such ti research scheme and were agreed that the most, appropriate place for the work was Otago Medical School. Details of the scheme accepted by the trustees were submitted by the dean of the medical faculty, Dr. O. E. Herons, and on his recommendation Dr. N. L. Edson was appointed senior Travis Research Fellow and Mr. G. .1. E. Hunter M.Se., junior fellow. It was stated today that investigation work had progressed rapidly since the appointment of the two men. The trustees hall visited the university and inspected the work, and had later complimented Dr. Hercus and the two officers on what had been accomplished. The success of work so .far was considered to be the result of the industry and enthusiasm of the research officers, and of their being able to obtain the advice and assistance of physicians anil and other specialists at the university. It is the intention of the trustees to make an annual visit to Dunedin to keep in touch with the progress of the work.
