SPHERES OF SERVICE

Farmers And The Army EVERY CONSIDERATION Dominion Special Service. AVHANGAREI, November 7. '■Where can ;t man best serve his country—in the army of primary producers or in military training?” asked the Hou. AV. Grounds. M.L.C., a former chairman of the Dairy Board, of the Northland Manpower Committee. It had been repeatedly stated, said Air. Grounds, that export production was vital to the country's war effort, but how could primary production be maintained if labour was to be taken from the farms to serve in territorial camps? "We are considering every case on its merits,” said Air. A. J. AlcGee, a member of lire committee, “and the farming community is giving us every assistance to get the balance between the requirements of the military and those of the farming industry.” "The men engaged in the farming industry are getting every consideration from this committee,” said Mr. N. Ilorrobin, another member, who also said the placement officer was at present inspecting men employed on public works, combing out those who had had experience on farms. The trouble was, however, that these men, after being dismissed from public

works, were not returning to farms, but were getting work in other indust rios. “I can assure you no one lias anything to fear of undue hardship through any decision of this committee,” said the deputy-chairman. Mr. AV. Jones.
