HOME DEFENCE
Returned Soldiers Seen As Bulwark ißy Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 25. “The rapid march of events in the Pacific, as well as further afield, indicates that there must be no lime lost in bringing Hie home defence of New Zealand up to its maximum footing,” said the Minister of National Service, Mr. .Semple, in an interview today, when he again stressed the urgent need for recruits for the Home Guard. "If the rest of the people will follow the lead of the Returned Soldiers’ Association the job will be done.” he added. Everywhere Mr. Semple had travelled in New Zealand he had found the returned soldiers keenly behind the Homo Guard movement. Their offers’ of co-operation were encouraging, and discussions he had had with officials of the association had been most, helpful. This was lhe spirit the Governineiit wanted. The returned soldiers of New Zealand would be the bulwarks of the Home Guard.
