PRICE OF MEAT
Three Reductions To Be Made
FIRST ON NOVEMBER 1 (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 25. A reduction of a halfpenny per lb. in the retail price of meat will be made on November 1 and two similar reductions will be made on December 1 and January 1, according to an announcement made by the Minister for Supply, Mr. Sullivan, today. “Two increases iu the retail price of meat have been made in recent months,” said the Minister. “The first was of Jd. a lb. on July 1, and the other was of’ld. a lb. on August 20. It is common knowledge that it costs more to fatten cattle duriing the winter, and it is, therefore, only just that farmers should be compensated for this extra cost. At the time these increases were approved it was arranged that as the position eased there should be a gradual return to normal summer yiriccs, and accordingly three reductions will be made in the next three months.” Some districts, notably Auckland, had already made reductions in the retail price where the weather had been favourable, and where this had been done the reduction would not be made on November 1.
