CORRESPONDENCE
Drenching Lambs On Ewes Sir, —I. have been following the correspondence on this subject with great interest on account of losses and set backs to by Southdown cross lambs during wet seasons on account of worms. Our usual routine .has been to delay drenching till weaning time—but about three years ago we considered that this was too late—as the worm had become established and the bluestone nicotine drench recommended by the department is only 50 per cent, effective each drenching. We would like to drench about six weeks before weaning, but hesitate to use the poison drench, bluestone and nicotine. Therefore, will you please give me the name of the manufacturer of the drench dealt with in attached cutting. Also during August you dealt with a drench a Taranaki veterinary surgeon was using on calves and stated that the New .South Wales Agricultural Department strongly recommended this drench for worm in sheep as well as cattle on account of being 100 per cent, effective and not a poison like bluestone and nicotine. The drench contains phenothiazine. Could you oblige with this information. I feel certain if fat lamb farmers in this area could get a non-poison drench and started drenching about six weeks to two months before weaning it. would mean a great improvement in the lambs and killing weights..—l am, etc., “W.J.G.” Otaki.
