YACHTING OPENINGS THIS WEEKEND
Heretaunga Club’s New Headquarters
Yiichting activities on Port Nicholson will formally begin this weekend, when two of the main harbour clubs will hold their opening ceremonies. First racds of the season will be held at Evans Bay on Monday, Labour Day, and competition is expeeted to be very keen. The Heretaunga Boating Club’s fine new clubhouse ou the Petone foreshore will be officially opened at 3 p.m. today and the ceremony will coincide, with the official opening of the 1940-41 yachting season at Petone.
A dance and presentation of, first season’s trophies will take place in the clubhouse tonight.
On Monday the Evans Bay Yacht and Motor-Boat Club will open its season. The patron, the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, will officiate :rt the mam ceremony, at 2.30 p.m. A full racing programme has been arranged and yachtsmen from all parts of the harbour are oxq>eeted to tit tend. There will be a dance in the clubhouse in the evening.
