SOUTH OTAGO FREEZING

A Record Killing Season Dominion Special Service. DUNEDIN, October 25. A record killing year and a very satisfactory financial position were reviewed by the chairman of directors, Mr. A. C. Leary, at the annual meeting of shareholders of the South Otago Freezing Company, Ltd., at Balclutha today. The killings last season were 360,543 sheep and lambs compared with 335,601 for the previous year, an increase of 24,942. The record killings would have been greater had the works been able to cope with all the stock offering during the peak months of April and May. The quality of the lambs was even better than last year ami the average weight was over £lb. a carcass heavier.

Dealing with the prices received during the season, the chairman said he thought the schedules ruling were very reasonable, and in the majority of eases must have shown quite satisfactory returns. Cattle killings showed a decrease of 314 head compared with last season, but as heavy killings of bouer cattle could not be expected every year, the company was probably fortunate iu getting the, numbers it did. The chairman pointed out that the directors had written £-1930 off buildings and plant by way of depreciation and after making provision for income tax., social security and national security tax to the extent of £16.1X10. there was remaining in the profit and loss account, a credit, balance of £16.651/13/-. which im eluded the carry forward of £5993/9/5 from the previous year. The directors recommended payment of a 5 per cent, dividend which would absorb £6630/10/and leave a balance of £10.021/3/- to carry forward. The dividend was approvTlm three retiring directors were defeated and three others elected. The Price Of Tin (By Telegraph.- Press Assn.—Copyright.) LONDON. October 24.
