Australian Wool Outlook

The probable trend in values of wool not controlled by the British Government is difficult to judge. Prices iu the United States, which were receding earlier, have latterly shown slight recovery, chiefly because of the greater confidence produced by Great Britain's resistance to enemy attack. The placing of army orders for fabrics with the American mills has been a contributing factor, W inehcombe Garson. Ltd., reports. The absence of uncertainty of the price of wool in Australia must be regarded with satisfaction. Because of seasonm conditions and the variation of the weight, of the fleece shorn per sheep, earniugs fluctuate to some degree. Stock valued vary for the same reason, but the position would cause much concern if wool prices were precarious, because of their dependI'nee on world conditions. The whole clip of New South W ales will be less than a year ngo. wnen *he sheen generally cut exceptionally heavy weights. During recent years the smallest weight of wool cut-from the ? hee[> and lamlw of tho ( State was in 1903-1.L.4 wher 56.578.1M0 head were shorn, gn u■tn average of 711 b. Figures for lust season are not complete, hut they were a record, exceeding the S.Slb. cut m 192607 and 1928-29. With a total of 1,750,000 bales, about 54 per cent, of the clip, to be appraised in Australia before the end of the year, the Commonwealth is assured of a prompt return for its staple product'.
