HOME GUARD

Enrolment To Commence On Monday

Enrolment of Home Guardsmen will commence on Monday next. A list of enrolling depots was published in “The Dominion” yesterday. Volunteers may enrol at any depot in the city or in the suburbs, mid it is necessary that all questions on tlie two questionnaires be answered Men who do not. take the oath cannot be posted to the Home Guard, and unnaturalized aliens should note that they are not eligible for enrolment. All members of snb-cominit-tees should themselves, enrol. Before enrolling civil servants, railway employees and Post and Telegraph and city corporation employees should await an announcement to be made shortly defining their position. Sub-committees are requested to return to the office of the Home Guard committee both portions of N. 5.0.1., and the supplementary questionnaire, no duplicate to be retained. A meeting of controllers of the Emergency Precautions Scheme units will be held shortly, and full particulars of units and their scope will be published. Some of the local sub-commit-tees have not yet completed their arrangements. but when these are made they will be announced. Volunteers are asked to study the article in “The , Dominion” of Wednesday, which gives instructions as to how to answer the questions.

Committee Formed In Brooklyn

Plans for the establishment of a command of the Home Guard in the Brooklyn, Vogeltowu and Mornington districts were discussed at a special meeting of representatives of the Wellington , Returned Soldiers’ Association auxiliary and tlie municipal electors’ association. Mr. R. Metcalfe, the chairman, gave a report of the recent meeting _of representatives of districts and organizations held in the Town Hall recently.

The following committee was set up Messrs. Metealfe (chairman), F. B. Jameson and A. G. Troughton. representing the returned soldiers, and Messrs. J. M. Russell, A. G. Anton and J. 31. McArthur, representing other organizations. The Brooklyn Returned Soldiers’ Club rooms, 37a Cleveland Street, was made the headquarters and main enrolling depot for tlie combined districts, and arrangements were completed to open this depot, from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., Monday to Friday each week. A subsidiary depot in the Vogeltnorn public ball library will be open from 7,30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays. Complete arrangements have been made for enrolling and attesting volunteers, and the work will begin when authority is received from the central committee.

Island Bay Committee .Vt a meeting convened by the Returned Soldiers’ Association and the Ratepayers’ Association held in Island Bay recently, the following committee was set up in connexion with the Home Guard Messrs. P. J. Doogan (chairman), B. O’Brien, D. G. Gemmell, RBriggs, H. Alexander O G. Johnson, D. Craig, S. Anton. T. Biddis. A shop has been secured on the Parade, Island Bay. and will be the depot for enrolment and swearing in of recruits.
