A further by-election for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, due to the resignation of Mr. Eric S. Spooner to contest a Federal seat, was held yesterday in tlie Ryde electorate. There are five candidates, three of whom represent the rival schools of Labour. However, tin' Government candidate, Mr. A. J. Mitchell, seems likely to retain tlie seat, when the prefercm'es arc distributed early this week.. His primary voles total 7522. while Ills nearest opponent, the ollicial Labour I'tiiidi/late, Mr. A. Williams, lias 7550 voles. A
