MEN’S HOCKEY
Season Drawing To A Close HUIA'S EASY WIN With the season drawing to a cloa* anil interest in recent weeks focused on the representative matches, mens hockey in Wellington on Saturday lacked competition. through clubs being unable to field full teams and only cue game was played. One of the matches to have been played at Newtown Park lapsed through default of one of the teams, as did the games between Hut and Karori I, and Varsity and Technical which were to have been played at the Petone recreation ground. / Hula 7. Wesley I.—Playing at Newtown Park. Hula scored an easy win against Wesley. Conditions were good. The •’round was considerably better than in most of the season's games, though somewhat slow through being heavily grassed. Hula proved the stronger team in combination, stickwork and tactics, and from the start had control of the game. The Wesley centre-forward and left wing showed up well on the rare occasions when they were given the opportunity. By half-time Huia had a lead of 3-0, and during the second half, as is often the case in a one-sided match, the standard of play began to deteriorate. Childs, the Wesley centre, caught the defence napping and scored a runaway goal, and very nearly followed up with a second one a few moments later. Scorers for Huia were Searle (31. Kelly. Hough (2), and Wilson.
