A tragedy that would have shocked the civilized world has been aPP The Germans no doubt hoped that if their dastardly attempt to assassinate the King and* Queen by bombing the Royal' r « slden “ was unsuccessful, the attack would at least have the e pelling Their Majesties to leave London. In this belief they have shown once again their complete failure to understand the British character, so fully and worthily represented in the personalities of King George and Queen Elizabeth. Courage, faith determination, and supreme devotion to the cause of the Empire have been the outstanding qualities which to the admiration of the civilized world have been displayed by the King and Queen and all classes of the nation throughout this trying period. The great stream of sympathy which has flowed into Buckingham Palace from the loya! Empire countries and other parts of the world should be a sustaining consolation to them in this time 111 S P* of their perilous experience they proceeded to visit bombed areas ot London “according to plan” is an example and inspiration to their people to steel themselves to carry on to victory in the same spirit of courage and devotion to duty.
