Decision In Last Five Minutes Dominion Special Service. WANGANUI, September 14. In a Rugby match which was hard, fast and even throughout, Manawatu beat ■Wanganui on Spriggens Park today by 14 points to 9. The weather was fine end the ground dry. The half-time score favoured Manawatu 9-3, but halfway through the second spell Wanganui scored two unconverted tries, and with the teams level iu points the pace became very fast and willing. A misjudged kick by a Wanganui back in the hist five minutes resulted in Manawatu scoring a try, which was converted, to give them victory by five points. The Wanganui forwards took the hom ours iu the lineouts aud scrummages, but the visitors had the sounder backs, who played to good purpose in bolh sessions. ■The three-quarter line displayed plenty of initiative aud often had the Wanganui team guessing with deft moves. Of the Manawatu team, E. Clarke proved himself a capable full-back. He varied his tactics well, and tackled soundly and fearlessly. C. Edlin played a particularly fine game at half-back and was a tireless worker. T. M. Denner was another who often caught the eye. Manawatu’fi best forwards were W. Powell, I. Dustin and J. Henry. E. Chamberlain and C. M ilson were the soundest backs on the Wanganui side. They made many good moves, and their quickening of pace often had the men opposing them at sixes and sevens. vv . Janies gave a sound performance at the base of the Wanganui scrum', getting the ball awav smartly. R. McKnight led. the Wanganui forwards ably and he received good support from E. V. Beiliss, B. Pedlev and IV. Firmin. For Manawatu V. Bowler scored two tries, T. M. Dernier kicked a field goal, and E Clarke and C. Edlin converted one try each. Trios for Wahgantli wore scored'by R. McKnight. C. Taite and M. James.

West Coast’s Success (By Telegrapli—Press Association.) NEESON, September 14. The Seddon Shield changed hands in the third game in succession when West Const beat Nelson 19-12. The heavier coast forwards held a territorial a( * vau ' ta ,e and gained a far greater share of the ball from the scrums, but the Nelson backs were better than their opponents. Grindle being outstanding. The winners points came from penalty goals by Lindbom and Scott (two) and two tries by Kiely, both converted by Lindboin. I'or Nelson Grindle scored two tries and also kicked a penalty and Hall scored a try. Tlie half-time score was 14-0 in West Coast’s favour. Nelson early in the sec ond half staged a recovery with two tries which placed them in striking distance, but the Coast forwards dominated the hist. 10 minutes.

MIRAMAR WIN IN PALMERSTON

PALMERSTON N„ September 14. Despite an improved performance in the second spell, United (Palmerston North) were outclassed by _Mirainar (Wellington) by 15 points to •>. on the showgrounds today. For Miramar, Mead and Cook (2) scored tries, one of which was converted by Poiier. Smith landed a neut field goal. For United, Luxmoor scored a try which was converted by Mabey. M*. B. Ryder was the referee.
