Orchestra’s Memorial To

Leader It was announced by the Wellington Competitions Society on Saturday that the Wellington Symphony Orchestra had indicated its intention to present, a silver cup, io be known as the Ava Symons Memorial Cup, for competition at next year’s festival. The cup is for the violin section of the programme in which there has been only one class this year, violin solo, 12-16 years, own selection. The society will announce the conditions of the competition for the cup later. Miss Symons was leader of the 'Wellington Svmpbony Orchestra and died this year while the Centennial musical festival orchestra, in which she was one of the first violins, was touring New Zealand. This will be the second cup presented by the orchestra for competition at the Wellington competitions, pianists having already competed for the Madame Evelyn de Manny Cup, presented in memory of the wife of the conductor.
