News And Notes From Town And Country Special Afternoon. A most successful social afternoon in aid of the surprise-packet stall at the fair which will be held by the Lower Hutt Alethodist AVomen’s Guild in October, took place at the infant room on AVednesday. The room was gay with spring flowers. The afternoon was organized by Mrs. W. J. Eddie, her assistants being Mesdames J. D. King, AA’. Hall, O. Crawford, N. Hall and .McKenzie. Each guest brought a gift for the stall. The short but enjoyable programme comprised vocal items by Mrs. N. Liebezeit and Miss Robson, and elocutionary items by Aliss Gwenda Heyes. Mrs. T. Paton was the accompanist.

Mission Auxiliary Annual Meeting.

The annual meeting of the Lower Hutt Alethodist Women’s Missionary was held recently, Mrs. AV. Hall, the president, presiding. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames C. Winslade and Millard. The secretary presented the annual report, featuring the activities of the auxiliary during the year, and the treasurer presented the bal-ance-sheet, the income for the year being £O4/3/5. Mrs. W. Hall thanked all the members for their assistance during the year, and Mrs. R. Heyes presented Mrs. Hall, on behalf of the auxiliary, with a small gift and posy as a token of appreciation and esteem. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Aliss W. Beaumont; vice-presidents, Alesdames W. Hall, A. Swift, and F. J. Parker; secretary, Airs. R. M. Russell; treasurer, Mrs. H. Pollitt; executive committee, Alesdames F. Teasdill, N. Clark, C. Robinson, C. Russell, and F. J. Parker. Kurahuna Alaori Girls’ School secretary, Airs. N. Clark; “Gleanings” secretary, Airs. J. Scotson; stamp secretary, Airs. C. E. Crawford: devotional leader, Airs. A. Swift; “Open Door” agent, Airs. C. Robinson; representative to the quarterly meeting, Airs. R. Al. Russell; depot manager, Mrs. F. J. Parker; tea conveners, Alesdames P. N. AVansbrough and AVakelln. Presentations to Guests.

A pleasant party was given recently at the National Club by the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Trained Masseurs’ Association in honour of Miss D. J. Bull, Napier, and Miss E. A. Worsp, Whangarei. The guests were received by Mrs. F. Dut’aur, president, and Miss P. Trimmer and Aliss E. Bowen, vice-presidents. Presentations were made to the guests of honour and many good wishes were extended to them. Among those present were Mrs. H. E Worsp, Miss J Worsp, Airs F. Dufaur, Misses P. Trimmer, E. Bowen, Al. Saunders, M. AVylie, D. James, V. Gibbons, G. Beath, V. Hutchison, J. Pacey, S. Lynch, M. Manthel, L. Wood, P. Greenfield-Brown, J. McGrath, J. Christie, J. Cuddie, K. Cleary, R. Falconer.

District Nursing Guild of St. John. The monthly meeting of the District Nursing Guild, presided over by Mrs. E. Al. Osborn, was fully attended. Sister Collins’s report was received and adopted, and correspondence dealt with. Donations in kind were acknowledged from the following: Miss Dix, Miss Rowley, “Anon.," Mrs. AlantellHarding, AVellington Men’s Division of St. John. Sincere thanks are also tendered for monetary donations from AV. H. S. Moorhouse Est„ Mr. A. Delmonte, Mr. L. J. Watkins, Airs. G. Barltrop, Mrs. J. Doctor, and Mrs. Al. H. Pearson.

Social for Residential Nursery. The Berhampore branch of the Residential Nursery held a successful social afternoon at the home of Mrs. E. Al. Barrett, Mulgrave Street, AVellington, recently. A large number of friends gathered in the drawing-room, and cheery fires and spring flowers gave all a warm welcome on a dreary day. A satisfactory amount was raised for the nursery funds. Afternoon tea was served 'by Airs, and Aliss Barrett. Among those present were Alesdames Barrett, Beales, Callyer, Swanson, AlcAlillan, AVhelan, Murdock, Watts, Kerr, Banks, Talbut, Lindsay, Forbes, Lawlor, Hobson, Seville and Alisses Barrett, Barker, Lambert, and Petersen. Good Year’s Work. That work had been well maintained was shown iu the report presented at the annual meeting of the Wellington District Methodist AVomen’s Auxiliary. The balance-sheet showed an increase in income. There was a large attendance of members. Mrs. M. Nicolson presided and the Rev. F. J. Parker led the devotions. Committees were appointed for the Dominion conference, to be held in AA’ellington in October. Officers were elected for the coining year as follows: President, Mrs. AL Nicolson; vice-presidents, Mrs. H. W. Smith, Mrs. J. C. Riddell; secretary, Airs. E. Alasters; assistant secretary, Airs. Trembath; treasurer, Airs. Denby. Thanks were extended to the officers for their work throughout the year. Airs. Bow, accompanied by Mrs. Cable, sang.

Concert tit Wellington Prison. Recently a concert party visited Wellington prison and presented a varied and attractive programme. The party was organized by Mr. G. Austin Blaekie. and the following performers entertained the inmates: Mr. Roy Baker’s aceordion band. Mr. Leith, Miss D. Violitch, Mr. Dentice, Sonny Moran, Mrs. Cole. Miss B. Blaekie, Mr. V Jones, Mr. Mcllvritle. Mr. J. Lloyd, ami Miss Heather Wright. Mr. Maurice Wishnowsky was accompanist. After tho concert, Mr. McGrath, superintendent, expressed, on behalf of tho inmates their warmest appreciation to all the performers who had given such a varied and excellent programme, and he also thanked the chaplain, Rev. G. W. Hunt, and Mr. Austin Blaekie, for their assistance.

Ilatailai League of Mothers. The annual meeting of the Hataitai branch of the League of Mothers was held recently. Airs. Rossiter presided and welcomed visitors from other branches. The annual report and balance-sheet were presented. • The resignation of the secretary, Mrs. McIntyre, was accepted with regret and several members spoke in glowiug terms of the services given by her during her terra of oflice. Thanks were extended to the speakers and all who bad entertained during tho year, and to I lie Methodist Church t rustees. The glee club gave songs and Miss Cohen recitations. The following were elected to oflice for the year: President, Mrs. Rossiter; life vice-president, Mrs. Mosfoii; vice-presidents, Mesdames Peterson, Mclntyre and Johnson; secretary, Mrs. Binnlo; assistant secretary, Mrs. Taplin; treasurer. Mrs. Laing; assistant treasurer, Mrs. Wray: magazine secretary, Mrs. Norrie; and a committee of 30 members.
